This is our most sophisticated dessert.
It’s a torte which is just a fancy European name for a cake.
It’s sweet, but not very sweet, if you know what I mean and it’s perfect for a crowd that appreciates old-world richness and subtlety.
Because it’s Sicilian you can taste the middle-eastern influences in the fresh orange zest, pistachios, rose water and the cardamom. It’s that cake your grandmother lovingly made and served you when you were a child, but you did not appreciate it as you would today.
This torte is perfect with a nice hot cup of coffee or tea. In fact, what is not eaten can be kept and enjoyed as a midday snack the following day. In a very strange way it’s addicting so, I would not be surprised if you woke up the next morning only to find; it’s all been eaten up.
